De Route

 3333 KM doorheen West-Afrika

1. Senegal
Four weeks before the start, our cars will be shipped from Antwerp (B) to the port of Dakar, Senegal’s capital. Participants fly in from all over Europe we’ll all meet up in a nice beach hotel close to the harbor from where we’ll discover the vibrant night life of Youssou N’Dour’s city. Via dusty sahel tracks and savanna and slaloming between majestic baobab trees we head east.

2. Mali
Mali is without doubt one of the most fascinating countries of West-Africa, both from a geographical and cultural point of view, but to discover it, you need to be prepared. We’ll enter the country via the city Kayes and head directly for the magnificent waterfalls of Gouina at the Senegal river. A trip of only 70km but it will take you all day long …

3. Burkina Faso
Via red dusty tracks we’ll cross the “country of friendly people” or in local language “Burkina Faso”. Close to the city of Leo we’ll drive straight through one of the country’s national parks with a nearly 100% guarantee to see a lot of wildlife. Be careful here: male elephants don’t like 2CV’s and sometimes chase them. (the full story will be told by the campfire in the nearby safari lodge).

4. Togo
For the border onwards we change our course from east to south and penetrate into the heart of Togo, a small country famous for the terrible state of its roads. The climate here becomes more humid every day since we’re entering the tropics. Dense vegetation and jungle, combined with beautiful mountains, make Togo one of the top-destinations of this expedition.

5. Benin
Benin is our traditional final destination. The country of voodoo, bush tracks of red earth, white sandy beaches, coconut palm trees, a hot turquoise ocean and so much more.
